Mo Huilan I think you are a great gymnast. You must have gotten a whole bunch of gold medals in the olympics. I am in gymnastics too, so I know how much getting a gold medal must feel like. My life long dream is to be in the olympics. I watch the olympic games every four years. I am a level 6 gymnast and I have been doing gymnastics for 4 years. I am 13 years old and I am in 8th grade at St. Mary Academy Bay View in the United States. It is an all girl private school. Good Luck in the future in gymnastics. Bye

I strongly believe that Mo Huilan is THE GREATEST GYMNAST IN THE WORLD, no matter what the judges think. If you have watched her, she puts everything in her routines: grace, beautiful coregraphed dance, smiles all the time, and ALL the difficulty in the world! It's really a shame that the judges were so blind to think that she doesn't even deserve a silver in the all-around. And look at Lilia Podkapaeva. She might have some grace, yes, but she doesn't have the enormous amounts of difficulty in her routines that Mo Huilan has, so therefore didn't deserve to get the gold (the judges didn't even deduct points for her major mistake on the uneven bars). But still, she got the gold. I know for sure that Mo Huilan will someday go to a world championships and redeem herself. She might be in fifth place now, but won't always be. She can amaze the crowds with her brilliant tumbling, giant swings, and 1 1/2 Yurchenkos. She might not win all the time, but we'll know in our hearts who the greatest gymnast in the world REALLY is.

Just wanted to say that MO HUILAN has the GREASTEST smile & the MOST BEAUTIFUL personality. I thought she did great in the Olympics, and I hope to see her again in future gymnastics competitions. The exuberance and power, as well as, the beauty and elegance that she puts into her performances gives her the right to bare the name "Mighty Mouse". In my own view, she's is the BEST of the best! Keep Smiling!!!

That's it! It's all over. How come it's so fast?
Anyhow, I find Olympics is becoming a competition which
lacks the spirit of the united world. Of course, every
country wants to earn the most medals, but in that sense
Olympics is just a show off time. It has no more unification
and no more excitement. I hope the next Olympics in Sydney
will become better.
We should pay more attention to appreciate athletes' attitudes
instead of admiring their performance. I'm sure the Chinese
athletes and many other countries' athletes were repectable.
And I hope that the US athletes can learn from them.
Finally, I want to thank all Chinese athletes for their honourable
attitudes and performance and efforts! Remember, a Gold medal
doesn't mean you're honourable, but no medal can mean you're
respectable. :)

Congratulation to CHINESE OLYMPIC TEAMS for the great achiecement in 96' OLYMPIC GAME. THANK our athletes, coaches, and officers for giving us, oversea chinese,a chance to feel our homecountry's glories and the pride as a CHINESE in this country which always takes CHINA as an enemy, even in OLYMPIC GAME of peace, unity, and friendship. As Olympic Torch burning down, USA should take care of their own shame for what happened during the Centenial Olympic Game.
Look beyond Olympics, the successes in sports is a indicator that our counry is getting stronger day by day. We are happy to have felt American fear to China not only in sports but also in all other fields. This is the only explanation why they tried hard to take every opportunity to attack China. WE bless our country!!!We are looking forward to the STRONGNESS of CHINA. Wherever we are, we are and proud to be CHINESE forever.
NICE TRIP TO HOME, OUR HEROES. TAKE CARE!!!WHAT you leave us are PRIDE, COURAGE, AND CONFIDENCE and LOVE TO OUR COUNTRY!!! THANK YOU!!!

Ms. Mo Huilan. Your performance in the Olympics has filled me with much of the Chinese pride that I have lost while growing up in the United States. I was at the Georgia Dome the night you won the silver medal for the vault, and although I was disappointed, I knew in my heart that you were truly deserving of that gold. It does not matter to me if you win any medals because the class that you bring to your sport is more valuable than any of those golds, and as the years go by and others begin to take the centerstage, you will always be remembered by the thousands of fans that you have touched with your courage and spirit. For me, it doesn't matter if you win any medals from now on, because your very presence has already made me and the rest of your countrymen proud. Thank you for making gymnastics enjoyable to watch.

To Team China
Congratulations to Fu Mingxia, Deng yaping, Ge Fei, Gu
Jun, Wang Tao and Liu Guo Liang!! We are all very proud of
Team China. We have the best Diving team and Table \
Tennis Team in the world! They are our dream team!!
I also have some comments to our gymnastic team. 1. It is because of the
shameless judges that Li Xiaoshuang, Mo Huilan and Bi Wenjing
lost their golds. But the most important reason is that the Inter.
Gymnastic Association is dominated by East Europe countries. I think the
only way to avoid our golds lost to the referees is to obtain the chairmanship of
the Inter. Gymnastic Association. If the chairman of the Inter. Gymn. Assocation is
a Chinese, the judges will not dare to be unaffair to us. I think it is possible because
China is now being richer so as to have enough funds to compete for the chairmanship.
2. Since the most important thing is to get as many gold medals in the Olympic games, the
Chinese team is better to pay more attention to the individual aparatus, not only the group.

Althrough China probably would not win as much as 1992, China's results actually improved. IF you look at the medals won this year closely, you will notice that China actually wins in many different sports. That means China is no longer a nation that can win medals in specialized sports. For 2000 at Syndey, we should try to win some medals in boxing, free-style wrestling, and more medals in tracki and field.

First I am very proud of the great victory of our
Olympic Team.
Second I am upset that many of the Americans ,especially
the commentors of the NBC , have no manners. They
are jealous of our victories.
Anyhow, our victory is the best answer !!
Good luck to China and China Olympics !

I am sorry to have seen Shuping Tan's disaster jump tonight. This is so unexpected! She is young and I am sure
she will try harder next time and even she will not have another Olympic chance in 4 years, this Atalanta experience would be an
asset to her which helps her in her future life. I have some comments to the coaches in Chinese Diving Team and Chinese Gymnastic
Team. [1]. We should pay attention to balance between developing the technical ability of the memebers and enhancing their
performance consistency. E.g., Guo, Jingjing dares try the most difficult jumps, but if she fails, she may fail completely. On the
otherhand, some athelete do something not as difficult as her and hence have a much smaller chance of failing. By doing that, their
initial point may be a little lower than Guo's initial point (same thing apply to gymnastic exercises: balance and strategy are improtant),
yet they still have a chance of standing ahead of Guo if case she fails. THe coaches should consider all these and form a wise strategy
for their atheletes in improtant matches such as Olympic. The prime goal in Olympic is to win, a by-product (hence 2nd
consideration) is to stun the audience and have a nice show. [2]. After so many years, we still do not have major breakthrough in the
artistic aspects of the female gymnastic competition. The root is, accd. to my observation, in the lack of high quality coaches who are
not only technicians but also artists. Hence we do not have good music in floor exercise, we do not have smart and electrifing "Bian
Pai" in female floor exercises. In the end, no current Chinese coaches are able to train a both powerful and artistic LADY gymnastic
in floor exercise. Our girls in floor exercises can only tumble, but they are not able to express their understanding and the
interpretation of the music, which is the core of the floor exercise. Many of our girls look exactly like naive little country girls,
comparing to their expressive and/or sexy rivals in floor exercise. [3]. It is impossible to turn a technical coach into a all-rounded
culturaly rich artist overnight. Can we consider inviting some ballerina to help the female gymnastic in floor exercise? or better
cooperate w/ foreign artists. I have Chen, Lu, the female figure skating's successful transformation (from a jumper on ice to an artistic
technician on ice) in my mind when I write down those prematured thoughts. Best Regards, Lyn C.

By the way, I strongly suspect the mission of the
Olympic Game. I must point out the dissimilation
of the values of the Olympics! There are too much
commercialism, too many cheatings, too many drug
abusings! The cost of the game hosting is a huge
astronomical figure! Why we humankind need such
an expensive and valueless modern Olympic? What
we should do immediately is pushing the reform of
the modern Olympics and recovering its original
humane spirits! Next Olympic Game should not be
hosted in one country! It should be hosted in five
countries in five continents.
I am hoping to see a real Olympic Game hosted in
Beijing!
Comments are welcome.

Last night, suddenly I had the feeling that Chinese should win the most number of medals in the
olympics. The reasons? Needless to say, we Chinese are the hardest workers.
Unfortunately, because of those immature judges, we haven't accomplish that yet.
What's more saddening is that we have obtained a lot of iron medals. Iron medals(4th place)
seems ok but needless to say, it's worth than wood medals(5th place). But what iron medal means
is that an athlete has put on his best effort, but due to unfair judges and many other stupid
reasons, he is forced to take the iron medal. Worst of all is that nobody will notice and
appreciate the effort of this athlete.
Although our Chinese athletes obtained the most number of iron medals, we're still in the top 5.
Needless to say, we should be #1. US should take all the iron medals.
Thanks again to all Chinese athletes. Don't forget that IRON MEDALS REALLY MEAN GOLD MEDALS!!!

Tonight's gymnastic competition was surprisingly unfair overall. It is even worse than yesterday's. While Americans are wildly cheering for their gold and silver medalists in individual gymnastic performance, I have sadly witnessed the "Olympic spirit" eroding. Now I deeply doubt about the gymnastics judges' integrity, professionalism and independent mind.
What affected these judges' judgements? Who controlled these judges' feelings? I am not extremely sure. However, my observation is that these judges have been basically controlled by the environment which puts most obvious pressure on them. Who are playing most actively in this Olympics? Everybody knows. So the biased results are predictable. It is sad! It is disappointing! and It is shameful!!!

It is a sad fact that International Gymnastic Association allows some shameless and selfish
judges to occupy the Olympic court. Those judges are criminals at the moral level, why? because
they have used their abused power trying to earse all the hard work the athelete and his
coaches have been doing during the four years. But they deem to fail! Chinese athelets
and coaches are so tough and dertimined that they will break all the artificial barriers
and stun the world, including those so-called gynmastic judges.
Lynn C. <lcao@pomona.edu>
Claremont, CA USA - Monday, July 29, 1996 at 15:54:43 (EDT)
More congradulations to Chinese athletes. Although
both gymnasts failed getting medals in pommel-horse, the
high digree of difficulty of their performance showed that
Chinese athletes always aim for the greatest difficulty and
always try their hardest. BTW, everybody with half an eye can
see that US gymnasts always do the easiest moves but they want
the best scores. That's so rediculous isn't it. Unfortunately,
nobody knows how those olympic judges "judge". Is it jeolous or
discrimination so that Li XiaShuang didn't get his gold in floor
exercise?
But that's ok. Chinese athletes are getting stronger in every
field. We'll see more medals coming from track & field, gymnastics,
diving and more. They'll never give up because they are Chinese!
Again, great efforts! Keep it up! We all love you!

Wonder why so much terrorism against the U.S. - the self-clained
world police and the "greatest nation ever known"!
The U.S. is the biggest loser of this Games. They showed to the
world nothing but their arrogance, ignorance, prejudice,
chauvinism, and worst of all, the disorganization!

I'm so proud of our athletes and our fans. I'm so proud of China. Congratulations, Li Xiaoshuang and all the other athletes! Cheer up, Mo Huilan! China has a bright future because of you and us. I can not wait to finish my study and go back to our beloved homeland. NBC made some nasty comments and we are surely going to protest. We won't let them go away with that. On the other hand, a lot of American people are friendly and understanding. The excellent performance of our athletes won their hearts. Li Xiaoshuang and Mo Huilan, you really impressed me with your devotedness and sportsman(woman) spirit. With that devotedness that is somewhere in the heart of every Chinese, we are going to prove to the world how great a nation we are. Let's do our best, for you in the sportsfield, for me and all the Chinese students in academia. In addition to what we do, we have to speak out. We Chinese tend to keep silent when actually offended by the prejudice and ignorance that some foreigners show. We've got to stand up for ourselves and for our country. Let's inform the poorly-informed, educate the arrogant, and never conceal the love for our country or the indignation against slanders.
Go China! Go Chinese!

On the second day of the game, I have sent a message to express my appreciation toward your web page. These days, however, I am very disappointed at your performance. There are lots of problems. Let me just give one: The medal checkboard is far from update. For example, by the end of July 24, China has 5 golds ,five silvers and total of 16 medals. But on you Checkboard, we have only 4 gold, 4 silver and total of 12! Until late today this rediculaous mistake is kept unchanged. I have recommented your page to lots of my friends four days ago. Now none of them are happy with the page. We, include myself, are not looking into your page anymore. What a shame! I really hope you guys can improve it and make it a real updated Olympic news source for all the Chinese abroad. Please keep up to your job as you initiatelly intended to.

To Mo HuiLan:
I know you must feel sad now... but don't be!!!
You were the best on July 25th game. In order to
get that 9.85, you did your best on that floor.
When I saw you made a mistake on that floor, when
I saw you eyes filled with water, when I saw you
almost let the tears came out of your eyes but
didn't and finished your excellent performance
with a sweet smile, I cried. I'm from Guilin too,
so I know you must miss your home, your friend,
and your sister. You did well for Guilin; you did
well for China; you did well for your mother. So,
don't cry, be happy, be strong, let me cry for you.
July 19th was your birthday, so happy birthday to
you. You are a big girl now, so don't let anything
becomes a block on your road to success. I'm sure
that you can let yesterday's shadow becomes a piece
of history. A better tomorrow is waiting for you,
so good luck... a voice from hometown

Shut up NBC and CBC! Your stupid immature comments about
Chinese swimmers show that you are just jealous of Chinese
athletes.
So far altough Chinese swimmers are having a poor performance,
they've tried their best. But those NBC and CBC reporters
just keep mentioning about the drug use by Chinese swimmers, even
after the US swimmers have won the gold medals! Stupid NBC reporters,
please be careful when you comment. Don't piss off 1.2 billion Chinese.
Anyhow, the reason Chinese swimmers performed badly so far is 'cause
most swimmers in this Olympic are young and inexperienced. Chinese
swimmers used to dominate in the pool, but that DOESN'T MEAN THEY HAVE
THE RESPONSIBILITY TO dominate again in every Olympic game! Also, USA is
the host this time, they had more stupid fans.
To all Chinese athletes: we all love you and know that you've tried your
best. We don't care how many medals you win because your efforts have shown
that you have the Chinese spirit! We don't want to be as childish as the
foreign athletes(I mean the US). They are just jealous of us.
Good luck for future events. Be patient. Remember, 1.2 billion Chinese are
always cheering for you!!! Thank you!

Keep up! Way to go. Even though there was some disappointment but it O.K. It is Olympic! I like what I have seen so far. We have a young swimming team. We can only get better. Our male swimmers are getting better. So 4 to 8 years, we will be a true swimming power. Those big mouths will be totally shut up (I hate them so much by the way). We have to continue to build our gymnastic teams. We need more all-around players so the success of the team will not depend on one single player. I am waiting for more good news and I am sure there will be. I appreciate everything our players have accomplished so far. My hat off to all of you and the coaches!

I am very happy to know that chinese female swimmer
Le Jingyi to win a gold metal. Congratulations to her.
I also feel resentful to a NBC sports reporter who made
comments about the chinese female swimmer's using performance
ehancing substance. It's unfair for them to comment all chinese
female swimmers about PES. You can point to a single swimmer
who was positive on drug test, but shouldn't include all swimmers.
Le Jingyi's victory is a good response to their comments. I actually
also sent a mail to NBC to be compaint about their comments on our
female swimmers and asked them what their comments are about the female
swimmers from other countries that have never had winning history in sports
won the gold metals in the Sunday's olympic swimmings?

Just want to express my appreciation of your efforts in
providing this wonderful web page.
I really like the design and structure of this site ---
unlike most other Chinese web sites, it's free of trite,
clustered yet unnecessary and unappealing graphics or
messages; the page is fresh, clear, well-organised, fast
for download and above all, it has wide, balanced news
coverage.
Excellent job ! Keep it up.

ps I found the white background to be an excellent choice
because it provides very good contrast for Chinese
characters in black. It might be better to use it for
pre-formatted text in English reports as well -- I
think it's easier, more comfortable for the eyes with
a stronger contrast.

Hi, Nice page with fast news !
NBC's politically charged remarks about a nonpolitical team in nonpolitical sport event,
as a funny guy in another commercial on NBC says.
That's American style. Jealousy can be self-killing, and it can also be a great drive if dealing with it positively, which applies everywhere.
So, let's show understanding and pride. Win or lose, I love our teams with more fighting spirit, scientific training and hardworking.
Good luck. Thanx.

First Day.... Something to cheer about, but also something so disappornating. I wish the what the NBC host said about Chinese swimmers are totally non sense. But Chinese have to porve it to Amrican and the world. That 's the only thing we can do before it's too late.

This is a very nice web site. I want to share my feeling about openning ceremony
with you. The openning ceremony is wonderful. but, I felt very bad about the NBC's
remarks on Chinese Team when Chinese Team entered the field.
Here is NBC's remarks about Chinese Olympic Teams in the opening ceremony:
"The People's Republic of China, one-fifth of the world's population, with
economic growing at the rate of about 10 percent a year. every economic
power including the United States wants to tap into that huge potential
market. But of course, there are problems with human right, copyright
disputes, the threat posed to Taiwan. and within Olympic, while they have
excelled, they were forth in the medal standing in Barcelona with 54 medals,
16 gold medals. this after 30 year absence which ended 1984. They excelled
athletically as a building power, but amid suspicions, dick, especially
concerning their track athletes and female swimmers possibly using
performance-enhancement drugs, none caught in Barcelona, but since those game
after 1992 several have been caught."
I think Olympic is a great gathering for friendship not a political tool. NBC's
remarks is not fair for China. I have send a email to NBC to protest their remarks.
What you think about this?

Thank you guys! This is really nice for overseas Chinese. As you know from other cources, it is really hard for us to get information about Chinese Olympic Team. Good luck to all the Chinese team members and also to you guys. I really hope some day we'll beat the current "superpower"!!! I know it takes time, and more importantly, it takes the efforts of the nation as a whole unit, including her every single member!

First of all, I enjoy visiting here although I feel unsatisfied somehow.
I care less about whether the news and reviews are written in Chinese or

Thanks anyway.

I am very impress with your slick server.
However, I am disappointed for the lack of
contents. Most of the links in your home
page are referring to the same source. For
instance, "team news," "pre-game news" and
"special reports" are all referring to the
identical page. I would think that if you
can streamline the home page and focus more
on Chinese team's information, this site
will be more interesting for the Chinese
abroad.
What I would like to read about is more in-
depth report on our athletics, their past
and current performance, and the likely hood
of capturing a medal. Thats something we do
not often read about in American media. We
can also add some activities for the reader,
like opinion pulls, guessing the number of
medals, etc.
As for fund rising, we can give out some T-
shirts, flags or souvenir for donors, to
increase the responses. Or simply sell them.
It will be more successful to rise fund if
you let someone get something inreturn for
their contribution to our team, you can say
show your gratitute for their supports.
